Welcome to our very first XX1 Media blog post!
First of all, a huge thank you for downloading our app and showing an interest in Dylan & Tom!
Whether you’re a teacher, a parent, a community professional, or simply a young person looking for your next favourite cartoon, we’re delighted to have you here.
But who exactly are Dylan & Tom, and what makes them different?
More Than Just a Cartoon
Dylan & Tom is an educational cartoon series created to help children understand real-life issues through fun, engaging and relatable stories. Let’s face it, some subjects aren’t easy to talk about.
Issues like Knife crime, bullying, antisocial behaviour, stranger danger and online safety are all important topics. Yet many teachers, parents and professionals can find themselves wondering how best to approach them.
How do you explain something serious without frightening children?
How do you make sure the message is understood?
And perhaps most importantly, how do you keep children interested long enough for that message to sink in?
That’s where Dylan & Tom comes in.
Here at XX1 Media, our aim is simple: to take some of the stress out of teaching difficult subjects by providing entertaining, age-appropriate educational resources.
We provide the tools. You bring the teaching to life.
Let’s Talk About PowerPoint… Seriously?
Imagine you’re a primary school teacher preparing a lesson about knife crime awareness.
You know it’s an important subject, but where do you start?
You don’t want to scare your pupils, but you certainly don’t want to play down the seriousness of the issue either. So like many people, you head to the internet.
After searching through outdated resources, unsuitable videos and endless websites, you eventually find yourself putting together a PowerPoint presentation.
PowerPoint? Really?
Now, don’t get us wrong. PowerPoint has its place.
But think back to the last training day you attended.
Remember sitting there watching slide after slide, wondering when the next coffee break was?
Exactly!
Now imagine being eight years old.
Keeping Young Minds Engaged
Every child learns differently, and keeping a classroom engaged can sometimes be a challenge.
For some children, particularly those with ADHD or autism, maintaining attention during traditional lessons can be especially difficult.
Their minds might already be exploring a hundred different thoughts before you’ve even clicked onto your second slide!
And when a lesson doesn’t capture their interest, some children may become distracted, restless or start fidgeting.
Not because they’re naughty or don’t want to learn, but because the way the information is being presented simply isn’t working for them.
Of course, every child is different, and no single teaching method works for everyone.
That’s why we believe educational resources should be colourful, engaging, accessible and entertaining, while still delivering important messages.
And that brings us nicely back to Dylan & Tom
So, What Can Dylan & Tom Offer?
Our aim is to give teachers, parents and professionals the resources they need to deliver meaningful lessons without spending hours creating everything from scratch.
You remain in control of how you teach. We simply help make the preparation easier.
Here’s what we’re putting together.
Professional Educational Cartoons
Each Dylan & Tom adventure explores an important real-life subject through an entertaining animated story.
Our videos generally run between 5 and 10 minutes, helping to keep lessons focused and manageable.
We’ve also included visual warnings before louder musical sections, giving children who are sensitive to sound time to prepare or put on their headphones.
The aim is to make the experience enjoyable and accessible to as many children as possible.
Illustrated Storybooks
Each subject can also be supported by an illustrated Dylan & Tom storybook.
Available as a downloadable e-book, with physical printed editions planned as an additional purchase.
The books work alongside the cartoons, allowing children to revisit the stories, explore the messages and discuss what they’ve learned.
Professional Teacher Resource Packs
This is where we hope to make life considerably easier for teachers!
Our downloadable resource packs are designed to support a complete classroom lesson.
Depending on the subject, resources may include:
* Teacher lesson plans and guidance
* Questions and discussion activities
* Printable colouring pages
* Word searches and spot-the-difference activities
* Choices and consequences exercises
* Classroom posters
* Achievement certificates
* Additional activities to reinforce the learning
Everything is designed to be easy to download, print and use in the classroom.
Less time preparing. More time teaching.
And you can still deliver everything in your own unique teaching style.
Posters and Classroom Resources
We also create colourful Dylan & Tom posters featuring positive messages and important safety reminders.
These can be displayed in classrooms, corridors, community centres and other suitable learning spaces.
Because sometimes a simple picture and a memorable message can start an important conversation.
What Subjects Will Dylan & Tom Cover?
We’re developing a growing collection of stories and educational resources covering subjects including:

And that’s just the beginning!
We have plenty more ideas in development, all designed to help children understand the world around them and make safer, more informed choices.
How Can You Get the Resources?
Our resources will be available in two main ways.
For schools and professionals: Downloadable educational resource packs containing videos, lesson materials and supporting activities, offered at a discounted professional rate. Proof of your school or organisation may be requested.
For parents and individuals: Selected resources will also be available to purchase and download separately, allowing you to choose the materials most suitable for your needs.
Our aim is to make Dylan & Tom useful both inside and outside the classroom.
Something Special for Our Launch!
Now, here’s something we’re particularly excited about!
To celebrate the launch of Dylan & Tom, we’re planning to give some lucky schoolchildren the opportunity to win a special Dylan & Tom merchandise bag!
And here’s the best part.
Rather than us choosing the winners, participating teachers will have the opportunity to nominate a pupil they feel deserves a special reward.
Perhaps someone who’s shown kindness, their parents might be struggling with finances and they need an extra boost, a child who has helped others or simply gone that extra mile.
We’ll share more information about this exciting opportunity as we get closer to launch.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes bringing Dylan & Tom to life, creating characters, developing stories, building our website, producing cartoons and building resources that we hope will make a genuine difference.
We’re only getting started.
We want Dylan & Tom to become more than just another cartoon.
We want them to become familiar faces that children enjoy watching, teachers enjoy using and parents feel confident sharing.
Most importantly, we want children to have fun while learning lessons that could help keep them safe.
